Great video. Given how hard it is to find "Plaster Magic," I have to ask how different the product is from just regular, high-grade construction adhesive. Also, for folks with lung- or breathing-problems, I'd strongly recommend wearing a ventilator when you mix those plaster powders. It's hard to imagine a worse type of dust to inhale.
Amazing video, but your logo popping up so often, startled me everytime 😂😂
Great video, annoying big Wally logo that keeps popping up.
This is the best video I've seen about plaster repairs
Interesting. But aren't the 2X4 turned the wrong way to the laths?
We are staying in a 100 year old Spanish Style home in Southern California that has the most gorgeous plaster walls and ceilings and I’m just here because I’m the curious type and appreciate history and craftsmanship. Thank you!
That was good.
Did u pre drill and anchor those screws
Thank you!
11 years ago and still patching that hole ,
Excellent
Didn't think they had recipitating saws then
If the old timer teaching me isn’t wearing his glasses like that I ain’t listening
So THAT'S what those down-hanging bits of plaster are called, keys! However, I can't find that definition in the dictionary. But I did find the word "cotter", which may be more accurate. I'm looking into it.
Great Video!! How do you repair cracks in plaster??
How well do you know this old house and lathe - are there usually studs at the corners and near or at windows can you show this too
Thoughts and comments - I like to use that pink stuff that turns white for my holes on this stuff
The spray and then the tube
What was this adhesive
Being selfish and sad Rory doesn't have an ongoing series here. Great vid!
The ready made joint compounds are not all the same some have less glue
A W E S O M E
I’m so inspired to save my home’s plaster!
Anyone find part 2 plz
How come you didn't sand between adding new plaster
This is such a well made video. I really wish you would put up part 2!!
Thank you very much I have a house built in 1902 that was literally picked up and moved to my current location and it even has railroad tie beams in the basement so you know it's got some time on it lol, but yeah alot of the walls in the older section of the original house (a family room and sun room were added) have this type of walls and the main hallway going upstairs has a large section pulling away. I didn't want to take away the originality of the house so this give me new options to repair rather than replace again thank you very much.
How do you cover the screws that you used to tighten the lathe?
The problems I'd like to find the solution to are all the problems you listed in this video.
My plaster walls don't have wooden slats, our walls the plaster is over wire mesh.
Big Wally, plaster doesn't come in a caulking cartridge. I'm a 3rd generation plaster. Plaster is applied with a hawk and towel. Products used are Gypsolite scratch coat and also used for the brown coat. Then depending on the finish coat, if it's smooth you use a mixture of autoclave lime and moulding plaster, if it has a sand finish you add silica sand to the finish. This is the real way to do it, not Plaster Magic.
Very informative and well made video. 👍 Any chance you should tape off the edges of that duct work, so that when you're finished they have a nice, clean look and aren't covered in excess plaster?
I can only imagine the skill it must have took to do those walls back in the day
this is the best repair video I have watched. Thank you. I have a 108 year old house that has some damage due to water seepage. Now i feel more confident to fix it. Will try to order the plaster/ lath glue. I am in Portugal
Brendan L thinks your wet plaster would feel good inside. Cut black trans out of lathe and restore their broken plaster holes.
can u still buy lathe and do plastert in 2023
Bless you, man! This video is so helpful for me. I am acquiring a 110 yr old house with p & L walls.
I read somewhere that joint compound was bad to put over plaster because it doesn't allow the historic plaster to breathe as it was originally designed to do. Is this not true? This video was very helpful! I have a hole exactly like this in my 1890s L&P walls where plumbing was retrofitted in the 20's. There is also a section (approx 2' " 3') that has significantly bowed outward where it jas clearly broken away from the lath. Would the adhesive solve this with the anchors or should I break the bowed plaster section out and redo it? Thanks!
How do you prepare the lath for cutring out a box for a new outlet?
Over kill?
When would you put a pattern and method onto the plaster? In my case the old plaster in the bathroom has a brick / tile look, incised lines.
If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!
So you leave the screws in the wall
I love you❤
Watching you repair this was like watching a doctor suturing up a patient. What skills you have and excellent explanations! Don't need to plaster now but less worrisome now and this will come in handy.
You are not ‘pre drilling”, you are drilling pilot holes. The term pre drilling is over used and ridiculous. How do you drill, pre, before you drill? Please stop using that terminology. The person who originated it was an idiot . Don’t be like him.
Short and informative. Nice.
What product are you using
Synco Confill , the only way !
If this isn't a masterclass in traditional repair to lath and plaster....then it should be. This is thorough and super easy step by step to understand. Thank you!
